How to find the clinic

Uttarbanga Clinic is on Sunity Road in Cooch Behar town, close to Police Line Chowpathi in Ward 20. The building is three storeys with a wood-finish facade and the words UTTARBANGA CLINIC in large white letters across the front, which is the easiest landmark to look for. The pharmacy occupies the ground floor and is open to the street; the consultation rooms and waiting area are on the upper floors, reached by the staircase to the right of the entrance.

There are two Google listings, and this is deliberate rather than an error: Dr Soumya Ghosh is the practitioner profile and Uttarbanga Clinic is the clinic itself. Both carry the same address, phone number and opening hours. The practice is also on JustDial.

Cooch Behar town is also written Coochbehar, and officially transliterated Koch Bihar; in Bengali it is কোচবিহার. If you are using a maps application, searching for "Uttarbanga Clinic Sunity Road Cooch Behar" is more reliable than the street address alone. What does a consultation cost?

The consultation fee at Uttarbanga Clinic is ₹500, payable at reception in cash or by UPI. Blood tests and medicines are charged separately, and you are told what each will cost before it is carried out rather than afterwards. If cost is a constraint on which investigations you can have, say so at the consultation — the tests can usually be prioritised so that the ones that will actually change the treatment are done first.

Coming from outside Cooch Behar town

Patients travel to the clinic from across Cooch Behar district — Dinhata, Mathabhanga, Tufanganj, Sitalkuchi, Mekhliganj, Haldibari and Sitai — and from Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri, as well as from Dhubri, Kokrajhar and Gossaigaon in lower Assam. If you are travelling a distance, message on WhatsApp before setting out to check the day's timing, and come earlier in the day if you can: mid-morning and early afternoon are usually much quieter than the evening.
